We invite you to Lacuniacha Park, a wildlife natural park located in the Pyrenees of Aragon, just a two-hour drive from Zaragoza. The park boasts over 120 animals from 15 different species, making it a fun experience for the whole family.
While adults explore the forest and discover its hidden secrets, children can learn about the park’s inhabitants. For example, did you know that reindeer shed their antlers in fall? Or that the birth rate in the park doubles in the spring due to an abundance of food? If you haven’t visited Lacuniacha yet, it’s a natural space where the whole family can enjoy and learn together.
Here, Przewalski’s horses, bison, and around 120 species of animals from 15 different deer species coexist semi-freely in an incomparable space. Lacuniacha Fauna Park is located in the former ‘La Pinosa’ forest, near the town of Piedrafita de Jaca in Huesca. In addition to observing these animals and their social behavior, the whole family can enjoy a walk along a botanical path. The path is accompanied by signs with explanations, making it an educational experience for children.
Follow the circular route starting from the parking lot to explore the habitats of bulls, bears, and mermaids. Enjoy unique views of the Peña Telera peak, which stands at about 2762 meters from the viewpoint of the Portaqua mountain range. Observe the flight of birds from a bird’s-eye view.
It is important to consider that Lacuniacha changes with each season. If you visit during fall (between September and December), you’ll be struck by the beautiful colors and clear weather. In spring (between late March and June), the animals are more active. The summer months (June to September) are ideal for those seeking an international atmosphere, with visitors from around the world. Finally, winter is perfect for skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts.
Lacuniacha offers explorers a unique opportunity to tour the park at night with a guide who will assist in observing the animals that continue their lives in the darkness. It is recommended to schedule the tour on full moon or meteor shower days to increase the chances of spotting something unusual among the bushes.
For the more adventurous, Laconia Biescas Aventura is located just 15 km away, about 20 minutes by car on the road from Huesca to France. Here, you can practice team tree walking, one of the most popular activities in Europe. The park, built on the trees, offers an ecological and environmentally friendly adventure, with 200 meters of omega tracks, climbing plants, monkey bridges, and Tibetan bridges.
This is a great place to spend time with family. The park offers trails for all levels and ages, and special monitors are available for rent to assist and guide during activities.
More adventure in the mountains
At 1602 meters above sea level, you will find a 10 km long wall that is a favorite among hikers: The Ibón de Piedrafita. The term ‘Ibón’ (Ybon) refers to a lake formed by melting ice from the surrounding mountains, which serves as a perfect mirror to reflect the surrounding peaks in the water. Whether you visit during the snowy season with snowshoes or in the warm season, the view is sure to impress.
The route is straightforward and suitable for children. It is well signposted and follows a path through the woods, with a descent of approximately 300 meters. The trail begins at the Lacuniacha parking lot and continues along the path marked by Sierra Tendeñera on the right and the impressive mass of Peña Telera on the left. The original text was already clear and concise, so no major changes were necessary. After about two hours of walking (if you are with children), you will reach Iván. The children can play in the vast fields on the hills while the adults admire the breathtaking views.
Before retracing our steps, it is recommended to make one final stop. After a short and easy walk, you will reach the geotectonic arch located near Iván de Piaderfita and the peaks of the Peña Telera ridge. This natural rainbow was created by geological processes and is sure to capture the attention of the whole family.
As we make our way back to the Lacuniacha parking lot, we are captivated by the vastness of the space and the fresh Pyrenees air. We store this memory as a treasure, along with all the previous experiences we have accumulated along the way, before inevitably returning to the city.
